Intake Process

If you are suffering from an eating disorder, initial assessments are done on the afternoons on Mondays, and at 1:00 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays by a board certified psychiatrist.

The initial assessment will involve a psychiatric evaluation that will include questions about the eating disorder to determine frequency, severity, and duration. The evaluation will also include assessment for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and alcohol and other substance abuse disorders.

Questions about your medical history, medications, developmental history, mental status, family history, and social history will also be obtained.
After the psychiatric evaluation, blood tests, vital signs, and an EKG will also be obtained to determine your medical stability. This initial evaluation will likely take 2 hours in total to complete.

After this initial evaluation, SNWC will contact your insurance company to obtain authorization for the intensive outpatient program if you are deemed a candidate for the program. If a unstable medical condition exists, you may not qualify for the intensive outpatient program or outpatient program and may need a higher level of care. If you do not want to enroll in the intensive outpatient program, you may simply enroll in the outpatient program which usually consists of just seeing the registered dietitian and psychotherapist once a week on average and psychiatrist once every 2 weeks or once a month.
